The National Board of Revenue (NBR) has now exempted all kinds of customs duty and Advance Income Tax on imported goods, including machinery parts, for implementation of Infrastructural Protection Management Project (IPMP) of the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant (RNPP).
The project will also get the Value-Added Tax (VAT) and AIT exemptions with some conditions. A circular has recently been issued in this regard, NBR officials said. Earlier, the NBR has provided similar duty facilities to the RNPP.
In the circular, the NBR said that VAT, complementary duty, regulatory duty and AIT will be exempted on imported goods including machinery parts, for implementation of the Infrastructural Protection Management Project of the RNPP.
But the project authority will have to comply with some conditions to get the facilities, it said.
The importer must be registered with the Russian joint stock company Federal Center for Science and High Technologies Special Scientific and Production Enterprise (Eleron) or a direct sub-contractor of it, the circular said.
It said the imported goods must be used only for this project. The project director or equivalent officer of the Ministry of Science and Technology will monitor it and a certified copy of the officer has to be submitted to the customs office in a regular basis.
Customs authority will take legal action, if the imported goods are used for other projects, the circular said.
Besides, the project authority must submit a list of equipments, parts and other products with names and descriptions before import.
And the duty benefits will not be applicable for the equipments, which are not involved directly with the protection management project, the circular added.
Syed-e- Momen, Senior Information Officer of the NBR, said the duty facilities have been given for the project as a mega project with view to implementing smoothly.
The infrastructural protection and management project has been undertaken for ensuring the highest standards of safety and security for the RNPP.
