Dutch Speaker praises RMG safety measures

Dutch Speaker Anouchka Van Miltenburg has lauded Bangladesh government for taking various steps in ensuring safety of the workers, working at the country’s ready made garment sector.
Miltenburg made the appreciation when Bangladesh Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury now on a visit to Switzerland met the Dutch speaker in Geneva Monday, according to a message received here from Switzerland Tuesday.
During the meeting, Chowdhury apprised the speaker of the Netherlands House of Representative that Bangladesh government is taking highest measures to ensure safety of the RMG workers.
Side by side ensuring the safety, the government has declared minimum wage and taken steps to solve accommodation problems of the RMG workers, She said.
The Bangladesh speaker also informed her Dutch counterpart about Bangladesh successes in achieving sustainable development and women empowerment.
“Bangladesh has already achieved Millennium Development Goal on decreasing mother and child mortality rate ahead of its Vision 2021,” She said.
The Dutch Speaker laid emphasis on adopting proper policy for ensuring political empowerment of women.
Later, the Bangladesh Speaker met with President of the Vietnam National Assembly Nguyen Sinh Hung.
During the meeting they put emphasis on increasing cooperation between Bangladesh and Vietnam for maintaining peace and democracy.
Bangladesh Permanent Mission in Geneva organized children’s art and cultural competition marking the Birth Anniversary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman yesterday.
Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury and member of the parliament delegation were present on the occasion.
