DUTA condemns bureaucrat’s threat on Prof. ABM Faruque

Dhaka University Teachers’ Association (DUTA) on Thursday condemned Additional Secretary of Fisheries and Livestock Ministry Kazi Wasi Uddin’ threat to Professor ABM Faruque ,who recently claimed to have found antibiotics in pasteurized milk of different popular brands.
DUTA issued a press release condemning the threat on Thursday signed by DUTA President Professor ASM Maksud Kamal and General Secretary Professor Shibli Rubayat-ul-Islam.
Press release said, ” Excessive antibiotics were found in most sold seven pasteurized and three non-pasteurized milk of Pran, Milkvita, Arong and others in ABM Faruque’ two consecutive research. After publishing the findings a bureaucrat opposed the research without any prove and threatened ABM Faruque to take immediate action against him. DUTA condemned such kind of behavior.”
DUTA said, “it is not true that researcher can’t publish his or her findings in seminar, symposium or media without publishing the research in peer reviewed journal,”
Moreover, on 15 july, 66 teachers of different University issued statements on behalf of Professor ABM Faruque. Teachers and Students of Dhaka University also protested the threat to Professor ABM Faruque and defamed additional secretary’s statement at different Human Chain.
However, raising serious health concerns for the country’s next generation, Dhaka University researchers led by immediate past director of Dhaka University’s Biomedical Research Center, ABM Faroque, found traces of antibiotics in 10 samples of packaged milk of several companies available in kitchen markets and grocery shops across the country.
Ten samples – seven pasteurized and three unpasteurized – were tested twice, the findings of the second test was released on Saturday amid intimidation of Dhaka University researchers by bureaucrats since the findings of the first test was released four weeks ago, finding traces of detergent and antibiotics in milk samples.
