A three-member cricket legends led by A M Naimur Rahman Durjoy MP on Monday visited the icddr,b’s Dhaka Hospital and handed over to its Executive Director Professor John D Clemens a cricket bat signed by the Bangladesh National Cricket team.
The bat will be auctioned during the icddr’b’s Board of Trustees meeting this June. The proceeds will go to the icddr,b’s Endowment Fund that supports free of cost treatment to the diarrhoea patients at the Dhaka Hospital.
Other members of the team are Shakib Al Hasan, Vice-Captain, Bangladesh National Team (ODI), and Tamim Iqbal, Vice-Captain, Bangladesh National Team (Test), who said icddr,b’s activities in Bangladesh against diarrhoeal diseases and severe and acute malnutrition are truly commendable.
On their arrival at the icddr,b’s compound, officials and staff members of the hospital turned out in surge to welcome the tigers and thanked them for their wonderful gesture in supporting the icddr,b’s Dhaka Hospital.
During the handing over ceremony, Professor Clemens told the cricketers, “We hope that as sports ambassadors of Bangladesh you will spread the activities of icddr’b to the word and specially our good work in providing treatment to thousands of Bangladeshis who seek our help at the Dhaka Hospital every year.”
In reciprocation, A.M. Naimur Rahman Durjoy MP said, “We are very happy to be able to support icddr,b’s Dhaka Hospital and we would like to consider doing more in the future.”
Patients at icddr’b’s Dhaka Hospital got a pleasant surprise when they saw the national sporting heroes walk through the Diarrhoeal Diseases Unit and Nutritional Rehabilitation Unit.
