Puja, the largest religious festival of the Hindu community, ended peacefully in the city and district as elsewhere in the country on Saturday with the immersion of goddess Durga.
Police and Hindu community leaders said the immersion- concluding ceremony of the annual worship was held at different places in the city and districts in a peaceful manner with the participation of large numbers of devotees.
The city’s Patenga sea beach area, the main venue of immersion, was vibrating with the presence of a good number of Hindu community members – from sexagenarian to adolescent, in the afternoon to say goodbye to the idols of Durga. Earlier, hundreds of Hindu devotees attired in their finest outfit thronged different Puja Mandaps including J M Sen Hall and Chatteshary Temple-the two biggest places of worship in the city-from morning till noon to bid farewell as well as seek blessings from Goddess Durga.
