The religious rituals of five-day celebration of Sharodiya Durga Utsob, the main religious festival of the Bengali Hindu Community ended on Thursday October 22.
It was started in festive mood from October 19 in 1,534 Puja Mandops of the division including 556 in district and 34 in Barisal city.
The festival was ended formally by immersion of the mirror-images (Darpan Bisorjan) of idols and deities from 10:00 AM October 22 Thursday observing religious rituals according to religious calendar (Panjika).
The structure of the idols and deities immerged in different rivers, canals, ponds from Thursday night and would be continued till Friday October 23 morning observing religious rituals, said Narayan Chandra Dey, city president of Puja Udjapon Parishad.
The Sharodiya Durga Utsob, a festival of the victory of good over evil according to the Hindu faith, ended in the region peacefully in festive mood with solemnities, religious rituals and harmony exchanging greetings of ‘Bijoya Dashami’, Rakhal Chandra Dey, and district president of Puja Udjapon Parishad told.
Thousands of devotees in Barisal participated in the ending of Durga Puja and giving farewell to with the immersion of Devi Durga and her associate gods and goddesses escorted with colorful processions to the Kirtonkhola River, canals and ponds.
Bauphal (Patuakhali) Correspondent adds: Chief Whip of the Jatiya Sangsad A.S.M. Firoj visited various puja mondops of Bauphal Upazila in Patuakhali district from 19th to 22 October on the occasion of Durga Puja on Wednesday .
Bagerhat Correspondent adds: The Durga Puja was celebrated in Bagerhat district town and its all the nine upazilas amid great enthusiasm . The ceremony was ended with the emersion of the images of the Goddess Duirga and other deities on Thursday night.
This year the highest number of Puja Mandops were erected in the district to celebrate Durga Puja. According to Abinash Chakravarty (Sona), Secretary General of Bagerhat District Puja Udjapan Parishad, the number of Puja Mandops in the district was 579 this year while as many as 135 Puja Mandaps were erected in Chitalmari Upazila alone. It is the highest number of Puja Mandaps in the Upazila level of the district.
