Durga Puja celebration gains momentum, immersion today

The fourth consecutive day of the Sharadiya Durga Puga, the biggest religious festival of the Bangali Hindu community, continued yesterday in the city as elsewhere in the district amid festivity, joy and traditional enthusiasm.
A large number of Hindu devotees were seen thronging different puja mandaps to offer puja in the morning yesterday. A good number of Hindus from all walks of life visited the diiferent puja Mondops in ity, Mondir adjoining mandops of the city.
The devotees participated in the cultural function on the mondir premises and also took part in a discussion meeting.
Religious chorus and aratrika were being performed peacefully by the devotees at every puja mandap, the Hindu community leaders said.
Chittagong metropolitan and district police and Puja committee source said there was no report of any untoward incident centering the Durga puja celebration in last fourdays.
Police officials said a five to 10 members team of law enforcers comprising of the police and Ansar have been deployed at every puja mandap of the district.
RAB personnel and two platoons of APBN were also posted to keep close watch on the situation.
Both district and Metropolitan Police (CMP) have already opened separate control rooms at their respective headquarters to monitor the situation. “A foolproof security measures have been taken so that Durga puja can be celebrated with the true spirit of the festivity and religious fervour” CMP officials said.
President of the Mohanagar PujaUdjapon Parishad Advocate Shamal Palit said they are satisfied with the arrangements and support from the administration for a peaceful celebration of the biggest religious festival. Today Bijoy Dashami set for immersion of the Devi Durga . The idols Durga will be immersed at Patenga and Fouzderhat beach beside Karnaphuli river at sadarghat and Feringhee Bazar Ghat .
 Additional police forces will be deployed at the immersion point today . Meanwhile Holy Ashura will be celebrated today through brought out of tazia procession in the city street. Police has asked the religious Muslims to celebrate the Ashura procession peacefully before the sunset, sources said. In the meantime, CMP comissioner Iqbal Bahar held meeting with the Ashura Udjapon committee and Mohanagar Puja udjapon Parishad recently.
Tight security measures taken in Ctg for holy Ashura , Durga Puja: The law enforcing agencies particularly Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP) has taken special security measures for holy Ashura and Durga Puja like every year.
CMP Commissioner Iqbal Bahar said police has taken special measures for controlling the law and order situation on the holy Ashura in the port city.
“We will ensure the tight security for the religious people to observe the Ashura and Durga puja in the port city.”
 He said police is prepared to resist any unwanted situation and any anarchy in the city. As per directives of the higher authority, CMP and other authorities have taken special measures in this regard, he adds.
CMP held a meeting with the leaders of holy Ashura Utjapon Committee on Tuesday at his office chamber. Earlier cMP commissioner held discussions with the Puja Udjapon Parishd .
 Addressing the meeting, Commissioner of CMP Iqbal Bahar said, the length of bamboos should not be more than 12 feet in the Tazia procession. Nobody can carry the explosive or locally made Potka and any other lethal weapons in the Tazia procession on October 1.
