Durga Puja, the largest religious festival of the Hindu community, is being celebrated amid great enthusiasm in the Sylhet city and the Thirteen upazilas of the district.
The festival was marked by puja, arati, recitation from scriptures, distribution of proshad, offering of devotional songs and bhajans.
Huge crowds are seen at every Puja mandaps, throughout the day especially after evening.
The district administration and Puja Udjapan Parishad Committee sources said 46 puja mandaps have been set up this year in the city and 576 in the district.
The celebration will end through the immersion of idols of goddess Durga on Bijoya Dashami on Saturday.
The authorities have assured smooth supply of electricity to all puja mandaps to enable the devotees to perform religious rituals smoothly.
Meanwhile, foolproof security measures have been taken in the city and all upazilas to avert any untoward incident during the religious festival of the Hindu community.
Commissioner of Sylhet Metropolitan Police (SMP)Gulam Kibria, said three-tier security measures have been taken in the Puja Mandaps areas.
Police, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), city especial branch of police and detective branch are patrolling in the city especially at Puja mandap areas, he added.
BSS from Gaibandha says: Durga Puja, the biggest religious festival of Bangali Hindus, is being celebrated amid much enthusiasm, religious fervor, gaiety and solemnity in the district.
General Secretary of District Puja Celebration Parishad Principal Paresh Chandra Saha said a total of 579 puja mandaps have been erected in all the seven upazilas in the district this year.
Of them, some 92 mandaps have been erected at Sadar upazila, 118 at
Gobindaganj upazila, 129 at Sundarganj upazila, 101 at Sadullapur upazila, 64 at Palashbari upazila, 60 at Shaghata upazila and 15 at Fulchhari upazila, he said.
The entire district has taken a festive look. Hindu devotees attired with nice dresses are thronging different puja mandaps with festive moods to have a look at goddess Durga.
Besides, hundreds of Muslims as well as people of other religious faith are also visiting the mandaps decorated colorfully and exchanging greetings with their Hindu friends and neighbours.
The greatest festival will end tomorrow through the immersion of idols of Durga in water bodies after celebrating Bijoya Dashami.
To celebrate the festival peacefully in the district, a large number of law enforcers, including RAB, police and ansar-VDP have been deployed in and around the puja mandaps, said Mashrukur Rahman Khaled, superintendent of police (SP).
Deputy Commissioner (DC) Gautam Chandra Pal said he had visited different puja mandaps in the district separately in last three days and exchanged greetings with priests and Hindus.
BSS from Rajshahi adds: The fourth consecutive day of the Sharadiya Durga Puga, the biggest religious festival of the Bangali Hindu community, continued today in the city as elsewhere in the district amid festivity, joy and traditional enthusiasm.
A large number of Hindu devotees were seen thronging different puja mandaps to offer puja in the morning today.
Anil Kumar Sarker, trustee of Hindu Development Trust, told BSS that of the 422 mandaps, 73 have been erected in Rajshahi city area and 349 in nine upazilas of the district.
A good number of Hindus from all walks of life visited the Nakkatir Mondir, the most attractive puja mandaps of the city.
The devotees participated in the cultural function on the mondir premises and also took part in a discussion meeting.
Religious chorus and aratrika were being performed peacefully by the devotees at every puja mandap, the Hindu community leaders said.
Rajshahi metropolitan and district police and Puja committee source said there was no report of any untoward incident centering the Durga puja celebrations.
Police officials said a five to 10 members team of law enforcers comprising of the police and Ansar have been deployed at every puja mandap of the district.
RAB personnel and two platoons of APBN were also posted to keep close watch on the situation.
Both district and Rajshahi Metropolitan Police (RMP) have already opened separate control rooms at their respective headquarters to monitor the situation.
“A foolproof security measures have been taken so that Durga puja can be celebrated with the true spirit of the festivity and religious fervour” RMP officials said.
Anil Kumar Sarker said they are satisfied with the arrangements and support from the administration for a peaceful celebration of the biggest religious festival.
BSS from Rangpur reports: Celebration of the five-day Durga Puja, the biggest religious festival of the Bangali Hindu community, continues with due religious fervour, solemnity and enthusiasm on the fourth day today in Rangpur division.
“The administrations concerned, law enforcers and local units of Bangladesh Puja Udjapon Parishad (BPUP) have taken adequate steps to ensure peaceful celebration of the festivity,” said Divisional Commissioner Kazi Hasan Ahmed.
“The celebrations will end through immersion of the idols erected in 5,176 Puja mandaps in all the eight districts of the division after celebration of the ‘Moha Dashami’ tomorrow (Saturday),” he added.
Leaders of local units of BPUP said the Puja mandap premises and adjoining areas have worn eye-catching looks with witnessing traditional fairs where local cottage industry products, handicrafts, toys, household goods, sweets and other things are being marketed.
Thousands of Hindu devotees of all ages including men, women, boys, adolescents, girls and youths are thronging different Puja mandaps to have a glance at Goddess Durga and seeking blessings for their wellbeing.
The colorfully decorated and illuminated Puja mandap premises have become heavily crowded since Thursday afternoon and overcrowded at nights, amid tight security measures.
This year, an all-time record number of 5,176 Durga Puja mandaps have been erected in Rangpur, Nilphamari, Lalmonirhat, Kurigram, Gaibandha, Panchagarh, Thakurgaon and Dinajpur districts in the division.
Talking to BSS, President of Rangpur district unit of BPUP Advocate Rothish Chandra Bhowmick Babu Sona said the Hindu community people are celebrating the Durga Puja amid huge enthusiasm in all 869 Puja mandaps erected in the district
He also thanked the present government and authorities concerned for taking adequate steps to ensure peaceful celebrations of the Durga Puja.
The Hindu devotees at different Puja mandaps expressed their happiness to BSS saying that they have been offering prayers, puja, archana, kirtons and other religious rituals peacefully without any problem.
They also expressed gratitude to the members of the Parliament, officials, politicians, leaders of local units of BPUP for visiting the Puja mandaps and extending all necessary cooperation in ensuring peaceful celebrations of the religious festivity.
