Durga Puja begins in dists

Celebration of 5-day long Durga Puja, the greatest religious festival of Bengali Hindu community has began in Bagerhat district town and its all the nine Upazilas on Monday with religious fervour, gaiety, solemnity, peaceful and happy atmosphere.
 According to the belief of the Hindu community, this year Goddess Durga appeared on the earth by boat. So, bumper crops may be produced in the country in the current year.
 According to Aonish Chakrabarty (Sona), General Secretary , Bagerhat district unit of Bangladesh Puja Udjapan Parishad (BPUP), as many as 608 Puja Mandops (pandels) were erected in Bagerhat district town and its all the nine Upazilas. The number of Puja Mandops in the district town is 12. The number of Upazila wise Puja Madnops is 139 in Chitalmari, 111 in Bagerhat Sadar, 77 in Morrelganj, 73 in Mollahat, 67 in Fakirhat, 42 in Kachua, 41 in Rampal, 32 in Mongla and 26 in Sharankhola.
On the occasion Hindu devotees irrespective of sexes and ages warmly clothed, visited the Puja Mandops and offered prayer to the Goddess Durga for removing all distresses and evils from the earth. Members of the Muslim community also visited the Puja Mandops.
The biggest Puja Mandop of the district was erected at Shikdarbari within Khanpur Union Parishad under Sadar Upazila with the initiative of a business magnate named Lyton Shikdar. As many as 651 idols of deities were installed on the Puja Mandops based on the stories depicted in the holy books Mahabharat and Ramayan. In the last year the numbers of idols of deities erected on the Mandop were 605. A large number of both Hindu devotees and the members of Muslim community from far and near visited this Mandop on the first day of Durga Puja.
Staff Reporter from Kishoreganj adds: The law enforces have taken foolproof security measures across the 13 upazila of Kishoreganj ahead of Durga Puja the largest religious festival of Hindu Community which was started form Tuesday and end with the immersion of idols on Saturday next.
At least 379 Puja mandaps in the district brought under CCTV cameras.
Police Super Md. Anower Hossain Khan advised the devotees visiting the temples and mandaps not to carry handbags, vanity bags, packets, metal objects and sharp item including knives.
Sylhet Correspondent says: The five days of Durga Puja formally started on Tuesday through Moha Shashti in all the ten upazilas of the Sylhet district with due religious fervor, solemnity and festivity.
District Puja Celebr-ation Parishad (DPCP) officials said, a total of 576 Puja mandaps has been erected in the district this year. Of them, 46 Puja mandaps have been installed in the Sylhet city.
While visiting different Puja mandaps around the district on Tuesday, our local correspondent found a large number of worshipers including women and children visiting the Puja mandaps and offering Puja to the Goddess Durga seeking her blessings for the welfare of mankind.
BSS from Rangpur adds: The authorities concerned have deployed 28,656 trained male and female members of Ansar-VDP at 5,107 mandaps for ensuring peaceful celebrations of the five-day Durga Puja festivities in Rangpur division.
“Deployment of the members of Ansar-VDP has been completed for five days to ensure security and safety at the Puja mandaps from September 26 to 30 next,” a press release issued here by Rangpur Range Office of Ansar-VDP said today.
Among the mandaps set in all eight district headquarters and 58 upazila towns and rural areas in the division, 1,365 Puja mandaps are being considered as more important, 1,384 as important and 2,358 others as common in point of security perspectives.
The authorities have deployed 4, 6 and 8 members of male and female Ansar-VDP at each of these mandaps depending on importance security category to ensure safety with assistance of the police forces for peaceful celebrations of the Durga Puja.
Of them, the trained Ansar-VDP members have been deployed at 864 Puja mandaps in Rangpur, 485 in Kurigram, 573 in Gaibandha, 421 in Lalmonirhat, 837 in Nilphamari, 1,210 in Dinajpur, 445 in Thakurgaon and 272 Puja mandaps in Panchagarh districts. A platoon Commander and an Assistant Platoon Commander are leading these Ansar-VDP groups at every Puja mandap to ensure easy movement of the devotees.
“Director of Rangpur Range of Ansar-VDP Kazi Shakhawat Hossain has directed District Commandants and Upazila Ansar-VDP Officers to ensure proper monitoring of law and order round the clock at all Puja mandaps,” the release said.
The Ansar-VDP officials are working in coordination with officials of the Puja Mandap Supervision Committees for peaceful celebrations of Durga Puja, the greatest religious festival of the Bangali Hindu community.
