Durga Puja begins amid festivity, enthusiasm

The second day of the five-day long Sharadiya Durga Puga, the biggest religious festival of the Hindu community continued yesterday in the city as elsewhere in the district with due festivity, joy and traditional enthusiasm.
Large number of Hindu devotees were seen thronging different puja mandaps to offer their Saptami puja in the morning yesterday.
A good number of Hindus from all walks of life visited the G M Sen hall, the most attractive puja mandaps of the city to perform their – Saptami Puja this morning.
The devotees participated in the cultural function at 4pm today at the G M Sen Hall premises and also took part in a discussion meeting.
Religious chorus and aratrika were being performed peacefully by the devotees at every puja mandap, the Hindu community leaders said.
Chittagong Metropolitan and district police and Puja committee source said, there was no report of any untoward incident centering the Durga puja celebrations.
Police officials said a five to ten members team of law enforcers drawn from Police and Ansar have been deployed at every puja mandap of the district.
Over 12,000 members of law enforcing agencies have been engaged to maintain law and order at 1,954 puja mandaps in the city and district this year.
Besides, 420 RAB personnel and two platoons of APBN were also posted to keep close watch on the situation. Both district and Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP) have already opened separate control rooms at their respective headquarters to monitor the situation.
Besides, CMP authority also formed 50 striking forces, 29 platoons of BGB, 20 platoons of APBN to face any situation, CMP source said.
“A foolproof security measures has been taken so that Durga puja can be celebrated with the true spirit of the festivity and religious fervour” CMP sources said.
The CMP authority ensured safe movement of devotees in and around the puja mandaps until the midnight, check possible teasing to the females, and close vigilance to check incidents of hijacking by deploying adequate number of police at all the vulnerable spots.
Talking to BSS, Chittagong Mohanagari Puja Udjapan Parishad (CKPUP) President Biddyalal Shill said they are satisfied with the arrangements and support from the administration for peaceful celebration of the biggest religious festival.
