Sohail Hawladar (32), a young entrepreneur from Bivore Ishwardi, dreams of becoming a millionaire by running a sheep farm. For five years he has been running a well-developed goat farm including Dumba. Apart from the expenses, he is earning around Tk 20 lakh every year. Ahead of Eid-ul-Azha, the farm has 30 lambs as well as a total of 80 valuable breeds of Totapuri, Haryana, Pakistani Beetle and native goats. But due to halt of transportation in the lockdown, he has fallen into disrepair with his animals ready to sell in this Eid-ul-azha.
According to Sohail, out of 30 dumbas, he contacted online on Thursday and sold two dumbas in Satkhira. One is sold at 2 lakh fifty thousand and another cost1 lakh 80 thousand taka. A large lamb weighing about 110-120 kg costs three lakh rupees for sacrifice. A breeding Dumba cost 1 lakh 70 thousand to 80 thousand taka. Baby lamb costs 1 lakh taka. He also has 8 Totapuri goats weighing 120 kg. The price is 80 thousand to one lakh taka.
Ishwardi Upazila Livestock Officer Dr. Rafiqul Islam said that keeping dumba is very profitable.
Sohail also said that there is a huge demand for lamb in the country for sacrifice. The outside party is not able to buy and take away as the transport is closed due to severe lockdown. I have fallen into extreme disarray with this huge amount of animal resources.
