The Vice-President of Dhaka University Central Students Union (DUCSU), Nurul Haque Nur, was assaulted again allegedly by 30 activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) at Sathmatha in Bogura town on Sunday.
At least five other members of Bangladesh Sadharan Chhatra Adhikar Sangrakkhan Parishad were also injured in the incident, reports our Bogura correspondent.
Cameraperson of Jamuna Television Shahniaz Shaon was also assaulted as the BCL men allegedly tried to seize his camera when he was capturing the incident.
Some 30 people launched the assault around 5:00pm when Nur and his followers were preparing for an Iftar party of his organisation.
Nur and Central Joint Convener of the quota reformist students’ platform Rasul were badly injured, Md Din Yanim Molla, Joint Convener of the platform said. They were taken to local Mohammad Ali Hospital instantly.
Later, the injured persons were being taken to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) while the report was filing at 9:00pm, witnesses said.
“We informed the police about this Iftar party, but they asked us not to arrange it anywhere in Bogura as they suspected that the BCL men might attack us,” the organizers said. Contacted, Sonaton Chakroborty, Additional Superintendent of Police (Sadar Circle), said that they did not know about any such programme or threat.
Naimur Rajjak Titas, President of BCL Bogura unit, said that there was another Iftar party of Bangladesh Awami Sechchasebok League on the library premises.
“Nur and his men were shouting,” he said. They only jostled with one another during an altercation and nothing more than that happened, he added.
Earlier, BCL men carried out severe attack on Nur on April 3 and March 11 respectively on the premises of Dhaka University.
Meanwhile, the quota reformists in protest against the attack on VP Nur held a demonstration in front of the Jatiya Press Club in the city. They demanded the punishment of the attackers on Nur in Bogura.
