DUCSU election Student bodies submit nomination forms BCL ‘rebel’ withdraws panel

Aspirants of different student organisations, platforms and individuals on Tuesday submitted nomination forms for Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) and hall union polls scheduled for March 11.
Till Tuesday eight panels were announced by Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL), Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD), Left students’ Progressive Students Alliance and Anti-imperialism Student Unity, two factions of Bangladesh Chhatra League (Pro-JSD) and Bangladesh Chhatra Moitri.
Apart from these, Bangladesh Students Right Protection Council, quota reform movement and Independent Alliance announced their panels.
Meanwhile, President of Dhaka University Journalists’ Association Asifur Rahman submitted nomination form for the post of DUCSU General Secretary as an independent candidate.
Leaders of the student wings and platforms said that candidates of their panels had already submitted the nomination forms within stipulated timeframe fixed by the university administration.
Meanwhile, the rebel leaders of Bangladesh Chhatra League withdrew their panel from the polls following a meeting with the Awami League senior leaders on Monday night at party office.
The members of the panel formed by former Chhatra League leaders announced the decision after meeting central leaders of the Awami League on Monday.
Sohan Khan, rebel candidate for vice-president post in a briefing said that they held meeting with the central committee members of the party and would work for the mainstream panel of Chhatra League.
Jahangir Kabir Nanak, Joint General Secretary of the Awami League, Organising Secretary AFM Bahauddin Nasim, Forest and Environment Secretary Delowar Hossain, Deputy Office Secretary Barrister Biplab Barua, Secha Sebok League President Molla Md Abu Kausar, and former Secretary of Health Affairs Dr Badiuzzaman were present in the meeting.
Earlier On Monday, the faction of the student body led by vice-president of its recently dissolved central committee; Sohan Rahman Khan announced a separate panel.
