The long awaited Laksham-Lalmai section dual gauge railway track began trial operation recently.
Additional General Manager of East zone railway Shahdat Ali told New Nation that newly installed dual gauge from Laksham to Lalmai is completely fit for operation.
Moreover, following the renovation and installation of new dual gauge tra ck, the distance from Dhaka to Chattogram will be miniised further and time will be saved to reach the destinations.
Railway sources said total cost for renovations of old track and new one installation from Chattogram to Dhaka estimated Tk.6500 crores and in first phase work from Brahmanbaria to Laksham was undertaken in 2014 .
The total Ctg Dhaka track is about 320 Kilometers and dual gauge will be installed in all 430 kms .The distance of Brahmanbaria to Laksham is about 144 kilometers and the work of installing dual gauge in 72 km from Akhaura to Laksham already completed in the meantime, East Zone Railway sources said.
