DU VC urges teachers, researchers to conduct research to prevent coronavirus

Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Md Akhtaruzzaman urged the teachers and researchers of the university to conduct effective researches to prevent coronavirus. The VC was addressing as chief guest a seminar on “Coronavirus (COVID-19) Outbreak: Challenges and Concerns for Bangladesh” at Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban of the University yesterday . Biotechnology Research Centre (BRC) of DU organised the seminar, says a press release .
Director of BRC Prof. Dr. Sharif Akhteruzzaman presided over the seminar while Dean of the Faculty of Biological Sciences Prof Dr Md. Imdadul Hoque addressed it as special guest. Former Director, Disease Control, DGHS of the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare and Advisor of World Health Organization (WHO) Prof. Dr. Be-Nazir Ahmed delivered the keynote paper. Chairman of DU Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology Prof. Dr. Mohammed Nazmul Ahsan gave vote of thanks.
Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Md Akhtaruzzaman stressed the need for taking comprehensive and integrative measures to face the challenges of coronavirus outbreak. He called upon all not to be panic and to overcome this situation carefully and courageously. He advised all specially the general people to wash hands with sanitizer and soap. He also urged them to avoid mass gathering and create awareness in this regard.
Former Director, Disease Control, DGHS of the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare Prof. Dr. Be-Nazir Ahmed said, the government has already taken various measures in stopping spread of coronavirus among the people. He emphasized on taking more necessary measures following the examples of some affected countries including China, South Korea and UK.
