Shamsunnahar Mahmud Foundation Gold Medal and Scholarship and Provost Scholarship were given to the meritorious female students of Shamsunnahar Hall at Dhaka University (DU) for their remarkable results in various examinations.
Among them, one got the gold medal, seven received merit scholarship, five general scholarship, three stipend and six got Provost Scholarship, said a DU release on Monday.
DU Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr AAMS Arefin Siddique handed over scholarship checks and certificates to the students by attending as chief guest on the occasion at the hall auditorium on Sunday.
Pro-VC (administration) of the university Professor Dr Akhtaruzzaman addressed the function as the special guest with DU Treasurer, also chairman of the foundation Professor Dr Md Kamal Uddin in the chair.
DU Rabindra Chair Professor Dr Mahua Mukhopadhyay delivered foundation lecture on “Mandakranta Chhande Banganarir Sangskriti Charcha” on the occasion.
Provost of the hall Professor Dr Supriya Saha and principal house tutor Syeda Mumtaz Shirin addressed the function, among others.
Addressing the function Professor Arefin Siddique recalled the contributions of Shamsun Nahar in social development and urged the students to realize her ideology for making themselves set in apex position.
He also congratulated the scholarship recipients.
Later, the VC also distributed prizes of cultural and sports competitions of the hall among the winners.
