Dhaka University (DU) Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr AAMS Arefin Siddique on Monday expressed profound shock at the death of former DU teacher and eminent academician Dr Abdur Rashid Purkayastha.In a condolence message, he said Dr Rashid was a brilliant teacher. Dhaka University would remember his contribution to establish DU Pharmacy department.
The Vice-Chancellor also prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed deep sympathy to the bereaved family members. Dr Rashid was born in Sunamganj in 1935 and obtained his Ph. D degree from Ottawa University of Canada.
He started his professional life at DU in 1973 and served the university as the founder chairman of the Pharmacy department. Later, in 1975 he left the country for New Jersey in United State where he was known as a prominent chemist.
