DU Correspondent :
Dhaka University (DU) authorities have decided to hold the controversial “Gha” unit entrance examination again.
The decision was taken in a meeting of Dean’s committee held at the vice-chancellor’s office around 12pm on Tuesday afternoon. Vice-Chancellor Dr Md Akhtaruzzaman disclosed the matter. He said, 18,463 students, who have passed the test, will take part in the new examination. However, those who failed will not be able to retake the examination.
Later, in a press conference DU VC also said,”The Dean’s committee will fix a convenient date of new admission test and let it notify to the media.”
Students had been demanding the exam be cancelled. The test was marred by widespread allegations of question paper leaks- admitted by the university.
Following the protest, the university authorities reassigned a probe body on Monday to investigate the alleged test paper leaks.
Meanwhile, Bangladesh Chhatra League, Dhaka University unit, brought out a silent protest procession and submitted memorandum to the vice-chancellor demanding re-examination of Gha unit around 11am.
Bangladesh General Students’ Rights Protection Council – the platform that has been spearheading the quota reform movement – also brought
out a protest rally and threatened the authority to lock all the departments on Wednesday if the date of retaking of Gha unit intake test by Tuesday was not announced. Bangladesh Chhatra League activists allegedly attacked the quota reformists when they were talking in front of Dhaka University’s Milon chattar area after their program demanding the cancelation of Gha unit admission test took place.
Around 10 Chhatra League leaders and activists swooped on quota reformists around 1:30pm when they gathered in the area and discussed about the question paper leak of DU.
The attack left at least three injured. They are Ratul Sarker, Faruk Hossain and Ataullah: All are joint conveners of the quota reformation platform.
Witness said: Liberation War Affairs Secretary Ali Rimon, Deputy Planning affairs Secretary Solaiman Hossain of Shaheed Sergent Zahurul Haq Hall unit of Chhatra League and Deputy Freedom Fighter and Reserach Affairs Secretary Rafid Nafi of Bangabandhu Hall unit launched the attack on the quota reformists.
Hasan al Mamun, Convener of the platform said: “BCL men suddenly attacked us when we were talking after a procession demanding the cancelation of DU Gha unit admission test. We don’t understand why they attacked us.”
“Such kind of attack on the university students on the campus is never acceptable. We hope Chhatra League will take actions against the attackers,” he added.
DU unit Chhatra League President Sanjit Chandra Das said: “I am not informed about the matter. If this kind of incident happens, we will take organizational step against them.”
