Dhaka University authorities will sit on an emergency meeting to today (Monday) to take decision of suspension of academic activities amid coronavirus pandemic.
DU Vice Chancellor Prof Dr M Akhtaruzzaman told The New Nation last night that the decision will be made considering national interest. “We will decide what to do to tackle the situation,” he said.
Faculty deans, directors of all institutes, heads of all the departments and hall provosts have been asked to attend the emergency meeting at 10am, said the VC who will chair the meeting. After the meeting the VC will distribute hand sanitizers among students and staffs.
In another development, Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (Ducsu) took a decision to recommend the university authorities ‘to shut down the university temporarily or announce summer vacation early after rescheduling’ and placed a memorandum to Vice-Chancellor (VC) Prof Akhtaruzzaman after holding their (Ducsu) own meeting in this regard.
Echoing with the student representatives, Dhaka University Teachers’ Association, the Federation of Bangladesh University Teachers’ Association issued statement concerning coronavirus outbreak.
Meanwhile, the students who went on fast unto death on Saturday night demanding shutting down of all academic and residential activities, withdrawn their strike after getting requested from university proctor and Ducsu leaders.
