DU Correspondent :
The Dhaka University Syndicate has asked Professor Aysha Mahmuda of the Psychology Department to go on leave for assaulting a female student of the same department on February 20.
The syndicate took the decision in its last meeting held recently. DU Syndicate member and Professor Lutfar Rahman told The New Nation that the Syndicate decided to relieve Aysha Mahmuda from all the academic activities of the department.
The students of the department welcomed the DU authorities for taking such action.
Department Chairman Ruksana Parvin said, Aysha Mahmuda threatened the students of taking action against them if they ignored her. She also hurled abusive words at them.
It may be mentioned that Aysha Mahmuda assaulted a female student in her room on February 20. In protest, the students of the Psychology Department confined her for half-an-hour in her own room.
The students also lodged written complaints with the DU Vice-Chancellor Professor AAMS Arefin Siddique, DU Acting Proctor Dr AM Amzad and the department Chairman Professor Parvin Haque, seeking justice.
