Assaulting fellow: DU teacher relieved of academic duties

A Dhaka University Professor has been relieved of his all academic duties from the University on change of assaulting a fellow teacher.
The University authorities took the decision on Sunday afternoon after Information Science and
Library Management Department’s Associate Professor Anwarul Islam lodged a complaint against Department Chairman Professor Muhammad Mezbah-ul-Islam.
Vice-Chancellor of the university Professor Akhtaruzzaman confirmed the decision.
In the morning, protesting the assault, the students of the department also announced to boycott all the classes and academic activities of the department from a human chain at the base of Aporajeo Bangla.
They also brought out a rally and submitted a memorandum to the Vice Chancellor.
Earlier, the teachers of the department also boycotted all the classes and academic duties on Wednesday.
In absence of the chairman, Dean of the Faculty of Arts Professor Abu Mohammad Delwar Hosain will serve as the interim chairman of the department till the new chairman selection, said the DU VC.
Professor Mezbah-ul-Islam had allegedly assaulted his another fellow teacher Anwarul Islam physically on Tuesday over a trifle matter.
