DU Correspondent :
Bangladesh Chhatra League on Tuesday issued a 24-hour ultimatum to a Dhaka University teacher asking to resign his post for allegedly distorting Liberation War History in an article of him.
The BCL leaders said that Professor Morshed
Hasan Khan of Marketing Department made offensive remark about Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and distorted history of Liberation War in his article titled “Jyotirmoy Zia” published in a national daily on March 25.
They also brought out a protest procession from the Madhur’s Canteen and paraded DU streets before ending at the Faculty of Business Studies where they held a brief rally.
From the rally, BCL central unit General Secretary SM Jakir Hossain said that the War of Independence started with Bangabandhu’s speech and the independence was achieved under his leadership.
“We believe that university authorities will take proper steps against him,” Jakir added. He also asked Professor Morshed to resign his post within 24 hours and also called department students to boycott his class. BCL threatened to submit a memorandum to the Vice-Chancellor today (Wednesday) if the university authorities do not take any action against him. BCL also burnt an effigy of the teacher.
Meanwhile, Professor Morshed gave a facebook post seeking apology if anyone was hurt by his writing.
In his article, published marking the Genocide Day, Professor Moshed Khan mentioned Ziaur Rahman as ‘the Declarer of Independence’ and claimed that most of the AL leaders, including Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, left the country during the liberation war, keeping the countrymen inseure.
