A female student of the Physics Department of Dhaka University submitted a complaint to university authorities against Lecturer Amitav Biswas, who allegedly sexually harassed her.
The allegation was handed to the Chairman of Physics Department. Professor Abdus Sattar.
Professor Sattar confirmed it to The New Nation about getting the complaint from the student and said that alleged teacher had been asked to stay away from all kinds of educational activities temporarily.
The CND committee of the department issued the suspension order after an emergency meeting on 21 November, he added.
He further added that they passed the compliant to the higher authority for necessary action.
According to the complaint, Amitav Biswas harassed the student on different occasions, whenever she went to him for academic help.
However, Amitav Biswas’ mobile phone was found switched off when effort was taken to contact for his comment.
DU Vice-Chancellor Professor AAMS Arefin Siddique said, he heard the matter and action will follow according to suggestions from university female harassment prevention cell.
