DU teacher assaulted

A teacher of Dhaka University was assaulted by two ex. students in his room on Wednesday.
The students were identified as Pitob Biswas and Rakibul Hasan Farayezi.
The victim teacher Dr Sheikh Manir Uddin of History of Arts Department accused the students of assaulting him.
The teacher submitted letters to the Vice-Chancellor, proctor of the
 university and Dean of Fine Arts Faculty for punishment to the students.
Dr Sheikh Manir Uddin told The New Nation that he was shocked at the behavior of the ex. students.
 “I have lodged complaints with the DU administration, demanding punishment to the culprits,” he said.
Eyewitnesses said the students entered Dr Sheikh Manir Uddin’s room on the Wednesday noon and ousted all others there from. Later, Pitob Biswas hurled abusive words at the teacher and Rakibul Hasan Farayezi hit him. The teacher fell on the floor and left.
At one stage other teachers sought help from the general students. The students of the department responded to the call of Sheikh Manir Uddin and the accused students fled.
A female student of the department wishing anonymity told this correspondent that it was unexpected incident. “No student, be he ex., can assault any teacher. I want punishment to those students who were involved in the incident,” she said.
Rakibul Hasan Farayezi said, the teacher misbehaved with us. He gave marks to us on political basis, not merit.
