Professor Morshed Hasan Khan of the Dhaka University Marketing Department has been temporarily suspended on Monday.
The action was taken against him for writing articles in newspapers with unsavory remarks on Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and distorting history of liberation war.
Vice-Chancellor Prof. Md. Akhtaruzzaman confirmed the development to The New Nation. He said, initially this action has been taken against the
teacher today (Monday). On March 26, a national daily on the Independence and National Day, published an article titled ‘Jyotirmoy Zia’ written by Professor Morshed.
In the article, he claimed that BNP founder Ziaur Rahman had the declared the independence of Bangladesh. He wrote, “At that time, most of the Awami League leaders escaped with their families, even Bangabandhu.”
However, Professor Morshed later apologized for the post in the newspaper and withdrew the related part on Bangabandhu.
Against this article, BCL leaders and activists protested on March 27 accusing him for critical remarks on Bangabandhu and distorting history. They burn of the teacher’s effigy and declare him unwanted in the university campus.
They also gave a memorandum to the Vice-Chancellor demanding dismissal of Professor Morshed. As the Vice Chancellor was out of the country, at that time the acting VC Professor Nasreen Ahmad said the varsity authorities will decide further action on returning of the VC to the country.
