All undergraduate students of Dhaka University have not received smart ID cards despite passing of six years.
Many students of the university paid smart cards fees during the first years admission but they have not received the smart cards although they have already obtained honours and masters degree certificates .
Students face numerous problems for not having a proof of their studentship. Moreover, the university authorities hope to provide smart ID cards to all undergraduate students within one month.
Abdul Alim, a student of 2015-16 academic year, he has already obtained master’s degree, but smart ID not yet.
Not only Alim, but about two thousand students of the university have not received smart ID yet.
“I hope to have smart ID card after completing my Post-graduation”, Saiful Islam, a Post-graduate student of Peace and Conflict Studies Department said.
For the lack of the cards, the students are facing problems such as borrowing books from the university library and in getting the introduced half-fare ride in public transports.
Most of the students without ID cards are from the social science faculty consisting of 16 departments.
In this faculty only the students of the departments of Economic and Japanese Studies have been given ID from the departments.The other departments of the faculty are lagging behind.
The students from the departments of Political Science, Sociology, International Relationship, Mass Communication and Journalism, Anthropology, Population Science, Peace and Conflict Studies, Women and Gender studies, Television Film and photography, Public Administration, Printing and Publications, Development Studies, Criminology and Communication Disorder are yet to get ID cards.
Prof. Mustafizur, Convener of DU online admission committee, said, “We have already provided smart cards to 12 faculties during Covid-19 pandemic and remaining cards for Social Science Faculty will be given within one month.”
Prof dr. Md. Akhtaruzzaman, Vice-Chancellor of the university, said, “The cards updating process is ongoing. It has already been given to many departments. The rest who did not get it will be given to them soon.”
