Staff Reporter :
Some of Dhaka University students on Tuesday tried to move close to Vice- Chancellor’s residence as the authorities failed to solve the accommodation crisis by mid October.
But they were stopped by a proctorial team.
On October 1, Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) member Tanbir Hasan Shaikat issued a 15-day ultimatum to the university administration to resolve the accommodation crisis on the campus.
Tanbir, a former member of Chhatra League’s central
unit, also threatened to move close to the VC’s residence if no effective measure was taken.
Yesterday, around 20 students, residents of Kabi Jashimuddin Hall’s “Gano Room” (mass room), went to the VC’s residence.
But, as they were stopped by a proctorial team at the entrance, they took position in front of the VC’s residence around 11:00am, reports our DU correspondent.
The proctorial team told the students that the VC was not present in his residence and asked them to come after his return. Talking to the media, Tanbir questioned the university administration’s sincerity to solve a problem. “If the authorities were really sincere, they would have evicted the illegal occupants from the halls and then we would not have to be here,” Tanbir added.
On October 1, Tanbir issued the ultimatum in a student rally held at the base of Raju Memorial Sculpture.
