DU students protest torture on fellows

Staff Reporter: Numbers of Students of Dhaka University are protesting the torture of four students on campus by Chhatra League activists.
The students joined M Mukim Chowdhury, one of the victims and a student of the Department of Tourism and Hospitality Management of the university, started a sit-in in front of Raju Memorial Sculpture since Wednesday, demanding justice.
The protesting students were holding banners read different slogans demanding punishment of those who involved in the torturing.
They were chanting slogans demanding the same.
The protesting students also brought out a procession on campus.
Mukim Chowdhury said to journalists that there was still no action from the authorities against the culprits.
“I want justice and expulsion of those who tortured me,” Mukim said.
Earlier on Monday nigth, Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) activists of DU’s Sergeant Zahurul Haq Hall tortured Mukim Chowdhury and three other students for nearly three hours before handing them to police early Tuesday.
The three others are Sanwar Hossain of political science department, Minhaz Uddin of Islamic History, and Afsar Uddin of Arabic.
Suspecting as Shibir activists the BCL men tortured them and then handed to Shahbagh police around 3:30am in the presence a team of officials from the DU proctor’s office.
Without disclosing anything about their involvment with Shibir,Shahbagh police released them four hours later.
