DU student walloped by BCL for failing to attend guestroom

A residential student of Dhaka University (DU) was clubbed by Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) workers for failing to attend the guestroom as examination.
The incident took place at room No 177 of Sir Salimullah Muslim Hall of DU around 11 pm on Sunday.
Shipon Mia, the victim is a third year student of Information Science and Library Management Department.
The student alleged that the leaders and activists of BCL called him to the ‘political room’ for failing to attend the guestroom and started slapped on him and tortured him mentally.
The accused people are Al Imran, Yasin Al Shaheen and Political Science Department student Yasir Arafat Plabon.
“The BCL men called me several times to go to the political room of BCL at night but I couldn’t participate in political program due to my examination. When I could not pick up phone for exam preparation, some people were sent to find me. Later, they called me to the room number 177 of the hall,” the victim said.
“When I went there, Shaheen took my phone and wants to know why didn’t I pick up the phone? At one point Plabon slapped my cheek and Imran punched me by stamp. I was mentally broken due to such torture during the exam night,” he added.
Salimullah Muslim Hall BCL president Tanveer Sikder said, “I don’t know about any such incident. I will find out if anything happened in this regard. I will take organizational action based on the evidence.”
Muhammad Belal Hossain, acting Provost of the Hall, said, “The student logged a written complaint to the proctor office which sent it to the competent authority.”
“Urgent meeting has been called on today in this regard. A probe committee will be formed in the meeting. Later, Administrative measures will be taken according to the probe committee report,” he added.
