Police on Thursday arrested the husband and father-in-law of DU student Sumaiya Khatun who was found hanging at her in laws’ house in Natore on Sunday night.
Sumaiya’s husband Mostaq Hossain, the main accused, and father-in-law Zakir Hossain, were arrested from Bogura and Rajshahi yesterday night, Superintendent of Police (Natore) Liton Kumar Saha told our Natore correspondent.
They were arrested after a murder case was filed by Sumaiya’s mother Nuzhat Sultana on Monday night. Following the arrests, she said, “I demand death penalties for both the accused.”
Earlier, police arrested Sumaiya’s mother-in-law Syeda Maleka, and sister-in-law Jui Khatun.
Sumaiya Khatun (26), a master’s student of Islamic Studies Department at DU, was found dead at her father-in-law’s house in Harishpur Baganbari area on Sunday night.
She was admitted to Natore Sadar Hospital after “falling ill”. Her mother went to the hospital only to find her daughter’s body in a morgue.
Resident Medical Officer of the hospital Aminul Islam said they found bruises on the body and signs of strangulation.
