The engineering division of Dhaka University (DU) has urged the university’s current teachers and students to let the authorities know about their expectations and recommendations on the development and extension of the Teacher-Student Centre (TSC) of the country’s highest seat of learning.
Amid criticisms in newspapers and social media over the decision to rebuild the TSC without taking the views of teachers and students, the DU asked for the recommendations in a letter signed by the acting chief engineer of DU Abul Kalam Sikder. The letter was sent to all the faculty deans and institute directors on Thursday.
Attaching the Google form (https://forms.gle/GnfMKXKS1NBVZGND7), the notice asked all concerned to submit their remarks by January 2, 2021.
In the letter, the acting chief engineer has requested the deans and directors to convey this to the teachers and students.
Talking to media, Acting Chief Engineer of DU Abul Kalam Sikder said they would submit the recommendations to the Public Works Department (PWD) of the government which will carry out the development works as per the instruction of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
TSC will soon be demolished to be rebuilt into a modern structure ahead of the university’s birth centenary celebrations in 2021.
The Public Works Department (PWD) came up with the move after Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on September 2 asked the authorities concerned to modernize Dhaka Medical College Hospital, TSC, and public library.
