The authority of Dhaka University (DU) relieved Prof Anwarullah Chowdhury from his post on Wednesday.
The decision which has been informed sending a letter from university registrar office will be effective from today.
Prof Anwarullah Chowdhury, a former vice-chancellor of DU who had to step down 16 years ago in the face of a student protests.
However, DU authority had appointed him as a
part time teacher of Anthropology department recently.
On Feb 3, he started to take an MPhil course class of the department.
“I was not informed about his appointment. When I came to know the matter, immediately I decided to release him,” said Vice- Chancellor of DU Prof Dr. Md. Akhtaruzzaman.
Earlier in 2015, DU authorities compelled to cancel a trust fund named ‘Prof. Dr. Anwarullah Chowdhury Trust Fund’ in the protest of students at the Department of Anthropology. The DU syndicate also decided not to establish any trust fund in the future in the name of the controversial teacher.
In 2003, the movement to throw out illegal pro-BNP Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal occupants from the halls was started by the girl students of the university.
Policemen and Chhatra Dal activists attacked the girls who were agitating in presence of several university officials on July 2, 2003.
VC Anwarullah Chowdhury faced huge criticism at that time for failing to take proper measures against ‘police torture’.
Students blaming him staged huge protests demanding his resignation that finally saw him standing down.
