Dr Mozammel Haque, a retired Professor of Department of Botany of Dhaka University, died of old-age complications at a private hospital in the city around 8am on Friday.
He was 71, Chairmen of the department Dr. Rakha Hari Sarker told media.
The Namaz-e-Janaza of the deceased was held at a mosque at Mirpur 11 section and later, he was taken to his hometown Satkhira for burial.
He is survived by his wife, a daughter, a son and a host of relatives and admirers.
In a condolence message, Dhaka University (DU) Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Akhtaruzzaman expressed deep shock and sorrow at the death of Dr Mozammel Haque.
He also prayed for the eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed sympathy to the bereaved family.
