DU, PMO pen deal on a2i

Dhaka University (DU) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Access to Information (a2i) Programme of the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) on Sunday at the Karobi Hall of the latter’s office.
DU Treasurer Prof Dr Kamal Uddin and Director General (Administration) of Prime Minister’s Office and Project Director of a2i Programme Kabir Bin Anwar signed the agreement on behalf of their respective offices.
DU Vice-chancellor Prof Dr AAMS Arefin Siddique, Policy Advisor of a2i Project Anir Chowdhury and Assistant Country Director of UNDP to Bangladesh KAM Morshed, were, among others present on the occasion.
Under this MoU, DU and a2i Programme will jointly undertake and implement various research, training and evaluation programmes with a view to finding appropriate solution and determine strategies to ensure government services of different Ministries and Departments to general people of the country in a most effective and easiest way. The agreement would also work as catalyst and contribute to enhance ICT capacities of the DU Departments and Institutes in producing skilled manpower.
DU Vice-Chancellor in his remark expressed sincere gratitude to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and officials of her office to involve the university with this important project, which has been contributing significantly in building Digital Bangladesh. He said that in order to develop the country through meeting the challenges of 21st century, uses and dissemination of information communication technology (ICT) is a must. Dhaka University has been playing a vital role through providing IT knowledge and skills to its students to accelerate the development endeavors of the country, he added. Terming new generation as future leaders of the country, he said that if they were equipped with IT knowledge, it would be easier for Bangladesh to obtain the status of Middle-income country soon.
