The authorities of Dhaka University (DU) has decided to cut off its relations with all educational institutions in Pakistan until the country stop lying on Bangladesh’s War of Liberation in 1971.
The decision was taken at an emergency Syndicate meeting of the DU held on Monday.
Vice-Chancellor (VC) of DU Professor AAMS Arefin Siddique informed the media about their decision through a press briefing held just after the Syndicate meeting at about 4pm.
Professor Arefin Siddique said, “The decision on cutting ties with Pakistan was taken in a syndicate meeting as
Pakistan denied the atrocities committed in Liberation War of Bangladesh.”
“DU won’t sign any new Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) or held academic exchange programme with any Pakistani university or educational institution. The programmes which are now underway to be postponed. If Pakistan seeks apology unconditionally, the syndicate will, later, take decision regarding the matter,” he said.
The meeting also urged the government to be vocal for scrapping Pakistan’s membership from the United Nations and the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC).
