DU observes birth anniv of Bangamata

The 88th birth anniversary of Bangamata Begum Fazilatunnesa Mujib, wife of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, was observed on Wednesday at Dhaka University in a befitting manner. Begum Fazilatunnesa, who played a pivotal role in building the nation staying beside the Father of the Nation, was born at Tungipara village of Gopalganj district on the day in 1930.
Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib Hall of Dhaka University (DU) organised a programme titled “Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib Memorial Gold Medal, Scholarship, Memorial lecture and Discussion” on the occasion of 88th birth anniversary of Bangamata. Vice-Chancellor (VC) of the university Professor Dr Md. Akhtaruzzaman was present the function as the chief guest while Treasurer and Trust Fund President Prof Dr Md. Kamal Uddin was present as the special guest. Renowned fiction writer and novelist Selina Hossain presented Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib Memorial lecture.
While addressing the programme, DU VC Professor Dr Md Akhtaruzzaman said “Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib was behind the successes of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman”. “Follow the ideology of Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib. Always be careful of any kind of rumour otherwise your security will be hampered” he urged the students.
Provost of the hall Dr. Zakia Parveen presided over the function.
Farhana Yasmin of Urdu Department conferred the gold medal. DU unit of Bangladesh Chhatra League, student wing of ruling Bangladesh Awami League arranged a female students rally at Teacher-Student Center (TSC) auditorium marking the birth anniversary of Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib, a source of inspiration for womenfolk and a pioneer of Bangalees struggle for independence.
Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader addressed the programme as the chief guest.
