Dhaka University (DU) honoured eight female educationists marking the International Women’s Day.
They were Emeritus Professor Dr Najma Chowdhury, Professor Shawkat Ara Hossain, Professor Mahmuda Islam, Professor Ishrat Sharmin, Professor Ferdousi Hannan, Prof Masuda M Rashid Chowdhury, Professor Dr. Zarin Rahman Khan and Professor Dr Nazmunnessa Mahtab.
DU Vice-Chancellor (VC) Professor Md Akhtaruzzaman gave them crests at a programme held on the eighth instant. Faculty of Social Science and Department of Women & Gender Studies organized it.
Executive Director of PRIP Trust Aroma Dutta, and human rights activist Khushi Kabir were present as special guests. Professor Dr Nazneen Ahmed presented the keynote paper titled ‘Economic Empowerment Women: The Moment of Truth’.
Dean of Social Science Faculty Professor Dr Sadeka Halim presided over the function while Women and Gender Studies Department Chairperson Tania Haque gave the welcome speech.
