DU holds nat`l confce on Strategic Management

Campus Report :A two-day long national conference on “Strategic Management and Effective Leadership in Higher Education” jointly organized by the American Institute of Bangladesh Studies (AIBS) and Dhaka University (DU) began recently at Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban of the university. DU Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr AAMS Arefin Siddique inaugurated the conference as chief guest. President of AIBS Prof Dr Golam M Mathbor presided over the function while Director of American Centre Ann B McConnell addressed it as special guest. Advisor of AIBS Prof Dr ASM Atiqur Rahman gave vote of thanks. Resident Coordinator of AIBS Syeda Nur-E-Royhan moderated the program.  DU VC Dr Arefin Siddique called upon the academic administrators to work together to change the higher education scenario in the country. He said, we have to share responsibility to minimize bureaucratic sluggishness in this regard. He urged the academia to respond to the societal needs and make higher education more market-oriented. The VC said, we must pursue quality education to produce trained human resources for the future and asses our niche in the world-ranking. Dhaka University authorities are relentlessly trying to produce world-class graduates who can contribute to the society. Therefore, some new departments, courses and various research centers have been opened at the university for responding to the societal needs, he mentioned. He said, the present government, under the dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has adopted effective strategies for the exponential growth of the country. Public universities will have to assist the government to materialize its dream, he added. He hoped that the conference would create a guideline for strategic management and effective leadership. The VC paid his deep homage to the memory of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in the month of mourning.It may be mentioned that a total of 200 academic administrators from around the country are participating in the conference.
