A memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed between the Institute of Disaster Management and Vulnerability Studies of Dhaka University (DU) and DeSHARI Consortium on Sunday at the DU Vice-Chancellor’s office. DeSHARI Consortium consists of 5 international agencies. These agencies are Action Contre La Faim, Christian Aid, Dan Church Aid, Save the Children and Muslim Aid.
DU Treasurer Prof Dr Md. Kamal Uddin, Country Director of Action Contre La Faim Roland Van Hauwermein, Country Director of Christian Aid Ram Kishan, Country Director of Dan Church Aid Hasina Inam, Country Director of Save the Children Michel McGrath and Country Director of Muslim Aid Mohammad Obaidur Rahman signed the MoU on behalf of their respective organizations.
DU Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr AAMS Arefin Siddique, Director of the Institute of Disaster Management and Vulnerability Studies Prof Dr Mahbuba Nasreen, DU Registrar Syed Rezaur Rahman, Project Manager of Save the Children Laura Scwell and Deputy Manager Rizwana Hussain and Project Manager of Muslim Aid Binod Dunga were present on this occasion.
The objective of this MoU is to increase the disaster resilience of local communities, schools and relevant stakeholders through the development and implementation of community and school based disaster risk reduction (DRR) approaches.
DU Vice-Chancellor thanked the authorities of 5 international agencies to sign this MoU.
