Now If any one goes through the Fine Arts Faculty of Dhaka University (DU), he/she see many teachers and students preparing the traditional parade of Mongal Shovajatra.
Pahela Baishakh, the first day of the Bangla New Year will be celebrated with elaborate programme including traditional Mongal Shovajatra.
The DU Fine Arts Faculty is taking preparation to welcome Bangla New Year 1429. The 22nd and 23rd batch students of the faculty are leading the enormous task to make the event a vast success.
The students and teachers of the faculty are now very busy making the kit of Mongal Shobhajatra with colourful masks, painting canvases.
They are also making flamboyant masks, life-size replicas of dolls, king and queen puppets, birds, tiger, fish, ox, elephant, duck and others for this year’s Mongal Shobhajatra.
Since its inception in 1989 by the teachers and students of Fine Arts Faculty, it became a major part of the celebration of Bangla New Year in the country.
Moreover, the Dhaka University administration has announced a roadmap to celebrate the day in a meeting chaired by DU Vice Chancellor Prof Akhtaruzzaman on Sunday.
This year’s ‘Mongal Shobhajatra’ to be brought out from the Sarak Deep area of the University’s Teacher-Student Centre (TSC) premises and will proceed to VC Chatter as the road in front of the FFA has been narrowed due to the ongoing construction work of Metro Rail.
The authority requested the citizens to limit the public gatherings and maintain proper hygiene as Covid-19. The festivity must be concluded within 5 pm and public entrance would be restricted on the campus area after that.
“Vehicles without DU authorized stickers will not be allowed on the campus after 7 pm on April 13 and motorcycles will be prohibited totally.”
“Festive masks and bags cannot be carried on campus. However, masks made by the Faculty of Fine Arts can be carried,” they announced.
On the day of Pahela Baishakh, movement of the procession-goers and others through the gate of Suhrawardy Udyan behind the Raju sculpture will be restricted. The others gate of Suhrawardy Udyan remain open to entrance and exit.
Moreover, the committee requested to the police to install CCTV cameras and archways on the campus to ensure security during the festivities.
Besides, mobile public toilets will be set up in the area adjacent to Haji Muhammad Muhsin Hall, the area adjacent to TSC, the area around Doyel Chattar and Curzon Hall.
