DU affiliated college students give 7-day ultimatum

Students of the Dhaka University (DU) affiliated seven colleges swho were protesting for several demands yesterday gave a seven-day ultimatum to the DU authority to meet all of their demands including publishing their result within a month.
They also demanded to reevaluate the examination papers and publish the results of their fellow Moniza Akhter Mitu-a second year student of Economics Department of Begum Badrunnesa Government Girls’ College of 2018-19 academic year.
She was committed suicide on July 16 for being failed in her honours examination.
Hundreds of students blocked the Nilkhet intersection and threatened that they would go for tougher movement if their demands were not met within the ultimate time.
They also hold a human chain at central Shaheed Minar. Their demands include– promoting 2017-18 academic session students to their second year at college, re-evaluating the exam papers to prevent mass failing, mentioning cause of failure in all examination results, processing an easier re-examination system, publishing the results within a month, publishing academic calendars for seven colleges along with crash programme to reduce session jam and to implement all the assurances given by the DU administration in previous time.
Earlier, the agitating students of seven colleges affiliated with DU blockaded the Nilkhet intersection for two hours from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm. Later, they
marched towards Shahed Miner with a procession at around 12:00 pm and formed a human chain.
While addressing in the human chain the students said, “Mitu was a meritorious student. DU administration is giving us false assurances without taking any effective measures. As a result, we lost our sister. After going home, Mitu committed suicide hearing the news of being failed in three subjects”.
“Mitu is not like a student of being failed in three subjects. The university administration did not properly evaluate the exam papers. So many of our students has failed”, the students added.
The seven affiliated colleges are – Dhaka College, Eden Mohila College, Government Shaheed Suhrawardy College, Kabi Nazrul Government College, Begum Badrunnesa Government Mohila College, Mirpur Government Bangla College, and Government Titumir College.
