Students seeking admission into the first year honours in Dhaka University have decided to submit a memorandum to the President Abdul Hamid, who is also the Chancellor of all the universities, on October 28.
It was announced at a peaceful protest rally held on the premises of the Central Shaheed Minar on Saturday morning.
Earlier in the day, hundreds of admission seekers and their guardians gathered at the Shaheed Minar at around 10am and staged protest, demanding the withdrawal of the decision of Dhaka University (DU) authorities banning 2nd appearance.
Police tried to disperse the protesting students
from the area in order to maintain the law and order situation on the DU campus.
However, the law enforcers later allowed the students to observe their programme as they promised to maintain peace, said Saheb Ali, Sub-Inspector of Nilkhet police outpost.
Dhaka University Acting Proctor Amzad Ali told The New Nation, “The protesters did not take any permission to stage their rally in the area. We are investigating the matter and taking necessary measures.”
Earlier on October 19, five of the demonstrators were released after a brief detention on bond that they would not hold any more programme.
Later, the students and guardians announced to stage a protest rally at Shaheed Minar on October 25 if their demands were not met by October 24.
