The High Court on Wednesday rejected the writ petition against the decision of the Dhaka University (DU) authorities not to allow students to sit for the university’s admission test for the second time. An HC bench comprising Justice Farah Mahbub and Justice Kazi M Ejarul Haque Akanda passed the order. As per the order, the students who have passed HSC examinations will not get the second chance to appear at the DU admission tests, Advocate ASM Mejbah Uddin, lawyer of DU, said. Earlier on October14, 2014, the DU authorities decided to allow only fresh successful HSC examinees to appear at its admission tests in a single year from the 2015-16 academic session, aiming to create an equal opportunity for all the aspirants. A total of 16 guardians filed the writ petition with the HC earlier in the day challenging the legality of the decision. On March 16, the HC issued a rule asking the authorities concerned to explain why the decision not to allow students to sit for the DU admission test for the second time would not be declared illegal. — Dhaka, July 8 (UNB)
