DSEX drops below 4500-point mark

Key share price indices of Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) and Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) – experienced a big fall on Sunday, the first trading day of
the week.
The broader price index of Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) dropped below 4500-point mark again after sustaining above this psychological level for nearly four months. The DSEX ended the session on Sunday at 4443.14, losing 59 points from last week’s close.
The two selective indices – blue chip DS30 and Shariah DSES – also lost 12.69 points and 21.84 points respectively to finish the day in red. The DS30 dropped below 1700-point mark at 1689.51 when the DSES ended at 1071.77.
The market was highly volatile as most of the issues losing on sale pressure against weak demand. A total 234 of securities ended lower among 313 trade issues when only 51 issues managed some gains.
All the major sectors including bank, fuel and power, textile and pharmaceuticals decreased while only ceramic was up.
The most losing scrips were Tallu Spinning, BD Autocars, Eastland Insurance, Bangas and Dhaka Bank when IFIC1stMF, Aramit, Standard Ceramic, Quasem Drycell and KDS Accessories were among the top five of the day’s moderate gainers.
The activities also decreased as investors were awaiting regulator’s decision on extension of deadline for adjusting banks’ capital market exposure. The daily turnover in value was down by 6.19 percent to Taka 317.72 crore while the volume fell by 3.0 percent 8.5 crore shares.
Ifad Autocars topped the turnover list followed by KDS Accessories Limited, Saif Power, Quasem Drycell and BSRM Limited.
Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) opened week lower on Sunday, with its major CSCX shedding over 92.80 points to finish at 8275.05.
