DSEX crosses 6,000 mark again

After a bearish trend last week stocks bounced back strongly on Sunday, the first day of the week, and DSEX, the major index of prime bourse Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), crossed 6,000-mark once again.
Market insiders said investors showed their buying appetite on large-cap sectors, especially banking and telecommunication issues as the DSE approved a proposal of Chinese consortium to be a strategic partner.
DSEX, the core index of the DSE, settled at 6,093/95, after soaring 128.33 points or 1.15 percent compared to the previous session. The DS30 index, comprising blue chips, advanced 30.34 points to close at 2,255.83 and the DSE Shariah Index (DSES) also gained 22.83 points to finish at 1,412.41.
DSE’s total turnover rose to Taka 455.45 crore, which was 52 percent higher compared to the previous session.
The gainers took a strong lead over the losers as out of 334 issues traded, 293 closed higher, 27 lower and 14 remained unchanged on the DSE trading floor.
LankaBangla Finance was the day’s turnover leader with 51.30 lakh shares worth Taka 22 crore changing hands. Top five gainers were Miracle Industries, Anwar Galvanizing, Fine Foods, Central Pharma, Agni Systems Limited while the top losers were Asia Insurance, Imam Button, Usmania Glass, Dulamia Cotton and Monno Ceramics.
