Daily turnover at Dhaka Stock Exchange crossed Tk 2,600 crore on Sunday, the first trading day after the announcement of proposed budget for the next fiscal year.
The turnover stood at Tk 2,669.38 crore, the highest in 10 years and six months, although the broad index DSEX experienced a decline.
On Thursday, DSE turnover stood at Tk2,182 crore.
Sunday’s turnover also happened to be the biggest single-day turnover since December 6, 2010, when DSE recorded trades worth Tk 2,701 crore.
DSEX, the benchmark index of the premier bourse, stood at 6,038.29 points at the closing of the day, falling by 0.25 per cent or 15.13 points.
Meanwhile, DSE shariah index, DSES on Sunday gained 6.14 points to stand at 1,299.31 while the blue-chip index, DS30, gained 18.96 points to stand at 2,222.55. Among the issues traded at the DSE on Sunday, 145 gained, 201 declined and 20 remained unchanged.
Among major sectors, engineering, miscellaneous and ceramics experienced price appreciation while insurance, bank and jute were among the losers.
EBL Securities, in its daily market commentary, said that investors had low confidence in bank and insurance sectors following the announcement of the proposed budget for next fiscal which did not provide any specific incentive for these sectors. The Chittagong Stock Exchange also experienced a decline as CASPI fell by 36.46 points with CSCX declining by 23.32 points on Sunday.
CSE recorded Tk 159 crore turnover on Sunday.
