DSE recovers on higher trade

Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) recovered on Sunday on higher transaction as some investors were booking cheaper shares, expecting good return on post-budget trading.
Major DSEX index finished 18.09 points or 0.40 percent higher at 4448.57 at Sunday’s close when blue-chip DS30 advanced by 16.42 points or 1.04 percent to 1626.08 and the Shariah DSES by 10.42 points or 1.04 percent to 1003.24.
The daily trade volume and value increased close to two-week high when 7.43 crore shares worth Taka 376.06 crore changed hands. The two-week highest transaction was 7.84 crore shares of Taka 305.34 crore on May 15.
Despite the higher transaction, majority of the issues traded incurred loss on the day as selling pressure was higher than buying orders. Prices of 139 companies fell below their Thursday’s close when 125 finished higher and 31 remained unchanged.
Telecom, cement, petroleum, pharmaceuticals and engineering were among the market leaders in trade when pharmaceuticals, insurance and textile gained most. Among the major losing sectors were financial institutions, mutual funds and food.
