DSE index falls below 4100-point mark again

The major price index of Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) on Wednesday fell below 4100-point mark again on selling pressure.
The DSEX closed higher on Tuesday as some investors were in cap-focused buying, but it lost nearly 20 points to close the following session at 4099.20, with the blue-chip DS30 and the Shariah DSES finishing lower at 1562.93 and 1005.17 respectively.
Due to on selling pressure, the daily turnover volume rose to 7.68 crore shares from Tuesday’s 7.58 crore, but the total trade value declined to Taka 316 crore from Taka 323 of the previous session as 177 issues suffered loss across the board. The major losers were Beximco Synthetic, Shinepukur Ceramic, BSRM Limited, Premier Leasing and Atlas Bangladesh.
Market opened negative in first hour and hit the low at 4070, but recovered some points when bank and power stocks showed some strength on active buying. The sector gained 1.07 percent and 0.71 percent accordingly in market capitalisation.
The loss in the other major sectors, however, pulled all the three indices down. Among the sectors, engineering fell by 3.51 percent, NBFI by 1.51 percent, telecom by 1.46 percent and textile by 1.63 percent.
ACI Formulation, UPGDL, Standard Ceramic, BD Lamps and ACI were the top five among the day’s 101 advancing securities.
UPGDCL topped the turnover list, followed by ACI Formulation, ACI, Western Marine Ship Yard, BSRM Limited and Shasha Denim.
