DSE ends week in green

Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), gained for consecutive three weeks amid positive industrial and economic conditions.
The daily average turnover at the DSE was Tk 501.61 crore, a rise by 14.20 percent, while last week’s average turnover was Tk 439.22 crore.
DSE benchmark index, DSEX, gained 67.29 points or 1.47 percent to close at 4,641.04 points in the week. DSEX closed the previous week at 4,573.75 points, gaining 42.12 points or 0.93 percent.
DS30, the blue chip index at the DSE, also gained 42.59 points or 2.46 percent to close at 1,772.23 points on the previous week.
DSEX Shariah Index, DSES, closed the week at 1,124.23 points gaining 23.08 points or 2.10 percent.
Of the 326 issues traded at the DSE last week, 149 gained, 149 suffered loss and 28 remained unchanged.
LankaBangla Securities, analysing last week’s market situation, said, “Stocks ended the week with consistent gain as the market was driven by industry specific news and economic updates.”
“As market has already digested quarterly earnings, all eyes are looking to see how market triggers impacted the bellwethers stocks,” leading stockbroker added.
LankaBangla said the central bank decided to hold off on interest rate cut in the 2015-16 fiscal to curb the volatility in inflation, while private banks are expecting to reduce lending rate to single-digit levels by January next and urged the government to cut further the yield rates on National Savings Certificates (NSC).
Among the major gaining sectors, telecommunication gained 6.41 percent followed by engineering 6.22 percent, cement 3.80 percent and fuel & power 2.13 percent.
The major losing sectors were mutual fund and NBFI with 3.49 percent and 2.82 percent loss respectively.
