DSE ends week in green

Key share price index at the country’s premier bourse, Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) maintained uptrend in the last week, showing a gain by 168.39 points to experience bullish average turnover of Tk 767.21 crore comparing to last five months.
The DSE benchmark index, DSEX, closed the week at 4483.28 points, 168.39 points or 3.90 percent high than the previous week. DSEX closed the previous week at 4314.89 points, gaining 192.57 points or 4.67 percent.
The DSEX Shariah Index, DSES, gained 36.45 points or 3.48 percent to close at 1082.93 points in the week.
The daily average turnover at the DSE was Tk 767.21 crore, a rise by 28.76 percent from the previous week while last week’s average turnover was Tk 595.84 crore.
Analyzing last week’s market pulse, a leading stockbroker of the country, LankaBangla Securities said, “This week, benchmark index extended its gain by 168.39 points with average daily turnover increasing by 29 percent compared to previous week. Investors’ sentiment got somewhat positive amidst calmness in political front and upcoming budget expectations”.
The stockbroker also said, “Moreover, expectation on enhanced economic ties with neighboring countries also made investors feel positive about broad economic activity.”
“However, small caps were in the highest gainers list this week. Financial stocks continued to provide return this week where NBFI and Banking stocks gained 6.9 percent and 4.1 percent market capitalization respectively,” LankaBangla said on its weekly market analysis.
Of the 323 issues traded at the DSE on last week, 237 gained, 70 suffered loss and 16 remained unchanged.
All the major sectors were gainers on the last week. The major gaining sectors were Ceramic gaining 8.83 percent, NBFI 6.87 percent, General Insurance 5.99 percent, and Bank 4.10 percent.
